NEW BEGINNINGS

It's been 3 months since I was last here!  Life is good and all is well.  December was busy with school holidays, Christmas, family and work.  My young Master 13 started secondary school in February and we (and I mean 'we') have just completed his first term.  A lot of adjustment and change to get a handle on, and he is doing really well.

Over the past few months my thoughts turned to this blog and it's future.  What is it's future? Does it even have one?

With so many blogs out there I think it's important to be clear on your 'reason for being'.  The risk is thinking you should be like 'such and such a blog' and you should be doing this or doing that.

I am not a fashion-y type!  My love is for style.  Trends often leave me cold but sometimes a trend will engage me, particularly if I can see how I can manipulate it to work for me rather than me compromising my preferred aesthetic to make it fit.

I do work casually as a stylist but I don't feel inclined to be telling you all how to style a black dress 5 ways.  You are smart stylish women with the creativity to do this yourselves, and there are other blogs out there that share this kind information and do it very well.

So where does this leave me?

Well, I love a dark aesthetic.  I love layers, yet I also love minimal streamlined looks, which is possibly where my own style is evolving.   I don't have a love of colour or pattern, although both appear in my wardrobe very occasionally and are very carefully considered and thought through.

I don't believe that women over 40 shouldn't wear black!

I believe women over 40 should wear what ever they want!

My personal goal over the past few years has been to establish a wardrobe of items that I absolutely LOVE.  Not items that are 'near enough' or 'will do'.  My approach has been that the "best for me" items are worth waiting for.  That means I may have to wait until the sale price drops to a point where it fits my budget, or I may have to "layby" a much desired item and pay it off ... that's right, I don't always get what I want, when I want.  And I usually have a small wish list ready for Christmas, Mothers Day and Birthdays lol.   And sometimes I simply cannot have what I would like.

My wardrobe is now quite complete despite that fact that I believe it will always be a work in progress.  My desire is that I will love my items so much that I will have created a wardrobe with longevity.  I feel relatively settled in what I see as the foundation of my style.. neutrals, interesting design, and quality fabrics ...and I don't see this changing.  I no longer desire new things all the time.  Instead I get excited about wearing what is in my closet.  And not just wearing it once, wearing it again and again.

So maybe I can share some of my process with you.  Share my thoughts in assessing the value of a new items being considered for purchase, and simply share outfits and we can inspire and encourage one another.

Here's to new beginnings!  Let's see how we go.  Leaving you with some outfits from the past few months just to prove I am still getting dressed each day :)

I am also very active on Instagram so please feel free to follow and chat that way too.
