STYLE EVOLUTION

Thanks so much for the lovely comments on my previous post.  Imogen from Inside Out Style (check out her blog, she's great, and a fellow Aussie), commented how our style is continually evolving and I absolutely agree with that.  The question I found myself asking though, was what, if anything, remains constant as my style continues to evolve?

There are two things that have been relatively constant throughout my style journey and they are layering and the colour black.  I have worn black since I was old enough to buy my own clothes. For periods of time I would wear black exclusively and then introduce pattern and colour for a short while, but colour and pattern never felt authentically me and I would always return to my beloved black.

The foundation of my wardrobe for a long time has been black.  Over the past 5 years I have added white (a big deal because I always thought it made me look big), grey (soft not charcoal) and ink blue.  I have a few items in what I consider to be my accent colours, being cobalt blue and deep red, and then I have a few items in muted abstract patterns - still in my preferred colour palette - BUT my daily norm is all black everything.

Playing with layers is something I have done since the early 2000's.  I recall layering dresses over slim leg ankle pants as one of my go to looks when I was expecting my son in 2003.  As time went on that look evolved into more creative layering of differing lengths, hemlines and textures.

So, is there a point where our style evolution 'slows down' and we can say we have 'found' our style.  A style that is uniquely ours and simply requires ongoing tweaks to ensure we remain current (assuming that is priority).  A style that incorporates elements that continually give us pleasure, is reflective of who we are and never bores us?

Now it may be unwise to put this in writing, but this is where I find myself now.  I definitely see growth and change ahead but I feel that the foundational elements of my style are now in place and unlikely to change.

How about you?  I would love to know your thoughts on how your see your own style evolving.  And what are those elements that remain consistent for you?

Have a great week.
