Signature

I am sure we all have signature elements to our style and two of mine would be manicured nails and my hairstyle.

My hairstyle has remained fairly constant for too long!  I have worn my hair in a bob style (multiple variations) over the past 20 years.  For the past 12 months I have been looking at photos of my style icons, all of which have short hair, pondering the big questions... could I?, should I?....well I did!

Instagram "selfies' in black and white are a bit of a habit and serve to produce cool profile pictures:)
The black and white always looks a bit glam and a touch more flattering

And already, I considering going even shorter.  It's easy to manage, quick to style and feels great.  And I think it was just the change I needed.

I have also worn nail polish since I was old enough to do my nails.  My most constant colours have been a beautiful classic red and black, both found over the years in brands ranging from Revlon to Chanel (both of which I still love).  But my polish of choice at the moment is UK brand Rimmel.  Quick drying, nice consistency and my manicure tends to last a good 4 or 5 days.

Over the past few years, I have added grey, blue and nudes to my polish colours.  The orange sadly hasn't been in rotation for some time and is about to be voted of the island.

So I wonder, do you change your hair spontaneously, or are you more considered and intentional?

What elements do you consider to be part of your 'signature' style.

xxx Deborah

Apologies for no outfit post.  I am currently on holidays and we have been experiencing a heat wave.  I have been rotating black sleeveless dresses and sandals when out and when at home I'm barefoot and rotating three simple cotton dresses.

Linking up with Patti at Not Dead Yet Style again this week.  So pop over and check out some other great blogs.

  3. I really always loved your previous haircut, but this is fabulous and I can't wait to see more photos, Deborah!
I have had the same hairstyle for ages, although usually longer than now and I was never brave enough to change it. Now it is a bit shorter and I am already letting it grow again.

  5. Very chic hair style! I love the look on you! I fell in love with nail polish, again, about a year ago. I do value the importance of accessories, almost always wear earrings, and some bracelets too.

  8. I love your do! I'm a short hair gal as well. I've been thinking of going shorter than my bob and this just may make me do so.

  9. Looking great! I love it. Don't know if you've read about my trials with hair, but I envy you. The woman who cuts my hair won't give me a very short cut ... she said my features are too coarse! Insulting, but correct.
My first thought when I saw this was "Se looks like a very young Helen Mirren!"
    Hope you're a fan!

    1. Jan I adore Helen Mirren. I will pop over and I'd love to read about your hair trials. I am not sure I agree with your features being "coarse"... but I am keen to pursue this further and get back to you:)

  10. Thank you so much for your kind comments about my hair. It was a big deal for me to go short and while some people in my daily life have commented in a complimentary fashion, others seem not to notice:) I take that to mean that it must suit me and I don't look shockingly different lol.

I'm no longer spontaneous with hair changes.

    1. Hi Nancy, that's a good question. I have always been very attracted to people who dress slightly on the fringe of trend. I was a quite an alternative dresser in my teens and twenties and then began to conform more as my work life developed, until about 4 years ago when I started to make my way back to wearing mostly black and neutrals and the draped and interesting (to me) silhouettes etc. It's an aesthetic that I am drawn to. I am not sure I have any real style icons but I have some fellow bloggers that really inspire me and who I relate to greatly. They are www.odysseyhome.com, www.glassorganelle.com, www.thedivinitus.com. And I love Rick Owens, tho don't own any of his garments.. yet:) Thanks for asking xxx Deborah
