I was inspired by friend and fellow blogger Sharon at The Breastless Years to get out my Obi belt and "belt up" for the first time in a long time.

I actually have three Obi belts, all somewhat different, all black and all currently a little neglected. The Obi 'sash' was originally designed as a belt or sash for the Kimono but like many traditional items, the Obi is now part of modern styling. I enjoy the waist definition it can provide and it's 'girdle' like effect of firming up one's wobbly midsection... well mine anyway! I generally prefer more waist surrendering looks, but this was a nice change and I liked the proportions it helps create. Of course, I have obscured part of the belt with the drape of my tunic preventing the belt from visually cutting me in half and creating the illusion of continuity to the top half of my outfit.
The Obi belt also seems to remain on the fringe of fashion. Having it's moments of popularity but generally not in, but never out of fashion, making it quite a timeless piece in any wardrobe.
Do you prefer to belt or not belt? Is there an Obi belt in your wardrobe?
Thanks for dropping by.
