Nothing Exotic!

I love this outfit combination and wish I could tell you that each garment is by some fabulous designer... but they are not:)

draped cardigan : target
tunic : valley girl
ponte leggings : target
otk books : target

I am often pleasantly surprised that interesting designs, in reasonable quality garments, can be found at varying price points.  Australian Target can be a treasure trove on occasion.  Is there anywhere you occasionally browse that surprises you? If so, what did you come home with?

  1. The asymmetry, black/white combo and proportions are superb. Your Target seems a bit nicer than any in my area! Of course I haven't looked at their clothing in a while..so I could be mistaken. Anyway, you look phenomenal!
To your comment on my blog re: purchasing Rick Owens:
I understand. I was fortunate to buy my first RO item in person while traveling. (I'm wearing it today, in fact!) After that, I knew his sizing and felt comfortable ordering RO online.
There are other designers I'm interesting in wearing but, like you, I don't know the sizing and am therefore reluctant.
Should you take the risk and order sight unseen, Rick Owens runs very small, narrow and long. I'm short but can get away with cutting a few inches off skirts and trousers myself, no hemming. This is because his Lilies knits are sold without a stitched hem. In fact, they're made to be cut shorter if needed, and to fray and unravel with age.
One more thing to add, a word of "warning": Once you start wearing RO, there's no going back! :D

  3. Looks designer to me! Great finds but I do think it's your styling that makes it special. Targets headquarters is in Minneapolis and so many creative people in town work there. Gosh I have purchased some items even at Walmart. I don't know if you have this store where you live. My best buy lately were some pant for $1 that look like some I like at JCrew. You just never know what you can find!

    1. Nice score Ann:) I have heard of Walmart but we don't have them here. I think they are similar to Target??? I agree that good styling can make items look 'better' than they are, although nothing will make a really poor quality garment look good. Our Target probably produced what I would consider middle of the range quality :)

  4. Hi again Deborah! I haven't sorted out how to reply directly to reader comments on my blog, so....
What prompted a return to my natural hair color (thanks for asking!): I grew tired of the look and maintenance of bleach and tone. I realized I did not want to deal with coloring at all. I'd lost my mojo under the platinum color, and it was time to find it again. :)
By the way, Target clothing quality is better than Walmart, reflected in Target's slightly higher price point. Target is more "fashion forward". That said, my aunt found a couple of beautiful black swimsuits at Walmart this summer and the quality was quite good. (Just FYI in case you're ever traveling in the vicinity of Walmart.)

  11. A bit late to this post, but all I want to say is that you make anything look amazing. I found your blog a year ago, and forgot to bookmark it. I've been looking for your blog like crazy and it took me ONE YEAR to find it and I'm so happy I did. I love minimal fashion blogs but most bloggers use Rick Owens, Demeulemeester, Wang, Yamamoto and I just can't afford it. I like that you look this amazing on a budget and it really inspires me. Keep up the great work, Deborah!
