Relentless

Our heat that is... relentless!    Here in my part of the southern hemisphere, we are experiencing a hot and humid February and a summer that feels like it may never end.

We have a phrase that we use over at You Look Fab.  Just Flattering Enough!  As time goes on I find I am less interested in conventionally flattering silhouettes and am very drawn to interesting shapes and silhouettes.  That's not to say that I don't appreciate classic or conventional flattery, because I do.   I just don't always seek that for myself.

This Metalicus Skirt was a Christmas/ New Year holiday purchase.  The design of the skirt won me over immediately as it was reminiscent of the Metalicus Curiously Draped Dress, a dress I have had my eye on but haven't bought because I really don't need another summer dress... goodness, did I say that out loud?!   I first tried the skirt on while shopping with my very classic sister who thought the skirt was awful.  So we continued shopping and after we parted, I made a bee line back to the store, tried it on again.. and took it home.

The skirt is a transeasonal fabric and will transition nicely into Autumn/Winter with the heavier toppers and footwear.

Have you bought anything recently that defies conventional flattery?  If so what, and did friends or family comment?

Thank for visiting.

xxx Deborah

BTW... that 's a nerf bullet at my feet in the first pic, the remnants of a children's party!

  1. Well I like that outfit on you. Yes, as I get older I find that my tastes are changing - I used to like plainer clothes, very classic styles but now I'm venturing into softer, drapey fabrics that aren't necessarily flattering for my apple figure :-) I shop with my 84 year old mum, which I've always done and enjoyed, but she isn't into the styles that I'm morphing towards! Will be interested to see what you do with the skirt for the cooler months.

    1. Thanks PJ. I love the freedom that comes with dressing when we are not longer 20 and feeling the pressure to conform. How lovely that you shop with your mum. My mother in law is a similar age, still loves clothes and we do the same :)

  2. I actually think this is quite flattering Deborah - the bare arms, the shark-bite hem showing your legs and the semi-tuck all give this structure and shape, to my eye. And the hair, lipstick and earrings make it look very polished.

I have a number of items that are loose and waist-surrendering. My husband usually says "That looks........OK", which is code for "I don't like it".

    1. Thanks Sharon. I think I should have given more care to the tuck as I can see now that it's not quite draping over my tummy flab lol. Hubby code is fun:)

    1. Thank you une femme, it's a great skirt and so comfortable too. I find there is often a greater level of comfort in some less conventional garments too.

  9. Hi NMF, so good to see you blogging again:) The earrings are made by a friend of a friend in Melbourne (I am in Australia). They were a Christmas gift from my BFF and I just love them. xx

  10. More flattering than you imagine! I like this combination a lot on you, but then I like your style generally. The skirt is a keeper! I understand, though ... I have recently been considering the coming misery of summer and wondering if I ought to give in to self-consciousness and stop wearing sleeveless dresses and tops. I'm fine with my front view, droopiness and all, but I'm appalled at how they look from the back! I mentioned it to my husband and he pitched a fit, declaring that sleeveless is a much better choice and that everyone looks strange from behind. (That's demonstrably untrue, but he's too sweet to argue with!) I'll decide later, but have been working the guns with weights, but will probably go sleeveless and advise anyone that objects to my fatty arms that the must avert their gaze. I will, however, be paying closer attention to other women's arms as they walk away!

    1. Hi Jan! If you want to wear sleeveless for summer then do it. I bet you look fab and that you are your most critical judge. Very few of us are super model perfect (and even they get photoshopped). You are a gorgeous and stylish woman, don't worry about your arms xxx

Thanks for your heartfelt comment on my last blog post, it meant so much to me. I'm truly touched. I'll still pop over to check out your blog via bloglovin.
